October 2025 newsletter

Newsletters are delivered to members each month, with messages from our President Joy and lots of interesting information about the club's activities.  Many thanks always to Angela, our Newsletter Editor.

President Joy reports:  "October is officially Probus month so we would like our members to wear something blue and yellow to our meeting on 20 October to mark this occasion.  It was really good to see more members attending the Happy Hour at Suzanne's home on 3 October.  I do encourage more members to attend these enjoyable get-togethers.  For something really different at our November general meeting, we will be holding an auction of four beautiful patchwork quilts. Our own in-house auctioneer, Di Terry, will conduct proceedings."

  • Members are encouraged to collect and save plastic bread ties, stamps and hearing aid batteries which can all be re-used.  Please bring to meetings and pass on to Gerie.  Please now pass on used tablet foils to Pam Mullaly.
  • A reminder the Southern Peninsula Support Group still requires donations of non-perishable foods (packets or cans).  These can be brought to meetings and deposited in the boxes provided.
  • Our guest speaker for October will be Maurie Hutchinson who will talk to us about the shipwrecks along the coast.  We're expecting quite a bit of interest.
  • The woman behind the badge will be Suzanne Edginton and we look forward to hearing from her (and about her holiday too).
  • This month, our Book Club members are reading and discussing 'Wifedom' by Anna Funder. The next meeting is on 10 November and we thank Kaye for all her organisation, Pam for working with the library to arrange the books and Sue for our afternoon tea treats.
  • Thanks again to Elaine for co-ordinating all the hand made goodies our club members make and donate to hospitals, charities and other local groups.  These items are much appreciated.  Elaine has reminded us about Christmas coming up and the packages that will be put together for those less fortunate.  Details will be provided again at our October meeting.
  • Thanks too to Gerie for keeping in touch with members with health problems to ensure they are doing well and to keep us updated on their welfare.  This month Di Terry, Kaye Crabtree and Gillian Vale have all had a spell in hospital but Gerie reports they are doing well now.
  • The newsletter diary reports on special interest groups, upcoming events and club activities - see our Activities page - or for more information email info@ryeladiesprobus.com.

A really enjoyable Happy Hour amd a Half at Suzanne Edginton's home.  A glass of wine, some delicious munchies and a guided tour of the very interesting garden.  Joy and Suzanne also introduced us to the new flyers for the Rye Ladies Probus Club.

What a nice way to start the weekend....

Our next Happy Hour is on 7 November at Joy Fielding's home - see you there!!
